This book is broken into essentially two different prequel stories about Area X. I enjoyed the Old Jim story quite a lot, but did not enjoy the

Lowry

story very much at all. The writing style across the two narratives is different and I didn’t like the change. I would say this is the least strong of the series. That said, I still love revisiting the Southern Reach.
