Missing Parts by Lucinda Berry

3.0

This was interesting because it didn’t feel like classic Lucinda Berry to me. This story is told in two parts and each part feels very different from one another. I liked each part equally but I was always curious while reading Part 2 what was happening in Part 1. In the beginning you have a group of female friends sitting down chatting, then it quickly turns to concern over Celeste’s daughter when she is rushed to the ER and many tests are run to figure out what is wrong with her. Due to some reveals in the first part Celeste makes a decision that changes the course of the story. The synopsis says “She’ll go to any lengths to protect her family-take any risk, break any law - anything except tell the truth.” I find that very far from what actually happened in the novel. The truth is revealed for her due to the circumstances and she doesn’t protect her family at all. In fact, she has no real attachment to her daughter at all and if she truly loved her husband she would have told him the truth. Right?

I know it might seem like I am crapping on this book but it was fast paced, I was invested to see where it was going and overall enjoyed it, maybe not as much as some of her other books, but again it didn’t really feel like a Lucinda Berry book anyway.
