Private Rites by Julia Armfield
4.5

A great follow-up to Our Wives Under the Sea which I also loved. The ability to make the dystopia future feel so real really made this special. Felt so obtrusively clammy and damp reading most of it anf towards the end very unsettled.
Breakdown of family against backdrop of climate crisis and failure of collective action was potent, particularly in final chapter. Ending left quite ambiguous though which I imagine was the point but I liked this, gave me lots to think about.
Only problems for me were the characters who I generally found a bit insufferable and hard to spend time with.
Will definitely be worth revisiting this at some point
