This book was such a revelation! Like looking at a delicacy in a cafe and not knowing how it would taste just by the looks of it. But trying it out nevertheless, to find out that you were completely surprised with the taste and loved it!

The bookseller who recommended this book to me, said, this is written in an unusual manner, but once you figure out the style of writing, its a brilliant comedy, almost satiric in nature, about racism in America. Specially, Asian racism and discrimination.

Like watching a dark comedy, there were so many moments in the book that made me laugh and then feel awkward about laughing, because they were no laughing matter. But Charles Yu has conveyed the message he wanted to convey about the big American dream for all Asian immigrants and the constant discrimination they've faced - obvious and subtle both, with humor and the style of a Hollywood movie.

I myself couldn't figure out as a reader, when the roles of the actors in the plot started to blur. I couldnt figure out what was real and what was being enacted, only that the last courtroom monologue by Older Brother and Generic Kung Fu Guy deserved a standing ovation!

Highly recommend this book - at least, give it a shot. You might love the taste/writing style, or just decide its not for you.
