This book was such a brilliant conceit. It intersects sharply and smartly with Austen’s novel, vividly contemplating class and labor. There are tough parts, especially in the coverage of the Napoleonic war, and some gross bits to do with household labor. On the whole, it’s lovely. At times funny, and incredibly engaging. Highly recommend to any Austen fans, and also to any who are frustrated with the absence/obscuring of the servant class in Austen.
