The Power by Naomi Alderman

dark reflective tense medium-paced

3.25

Some parts of this I loved, but other parts not so much. I liked how the author included how the tides were turned and the men in the story were facing things women normally face all the time. It seemed like a subtle but at the same time very obvious statement to the fact that these things aren't very normal at all. I disliked how violent some of the women became with the power and at first thought I was like...this isn't very realistic...and I probably would have hated this book if I'd read it pre-2020. Then I realized that it's completely realistic and this is probably very close to how things would go down if something like this would happen in the real world. I think the decision to follow so many characters was necessary to show what was happening all over the world, but at the same time I think it didn't allow me to care much about any of them and so there was a disconnect there.
