Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan

1.0

Any book that uses emoticons frequently instead of words is not getting a high rating. It was even in transcripts of text, where it could be forgivable. Nope just every chapter of Naomi's (one of the main POVs) used emojis? WHY? I actually googled to make sure my Library didn't have a weird censored e-book copy of the book. Nope. An actual literary choice. I'm sure some people liked it and think it's current, unique and different. I can see that, but I am not one of those people though. Just thought it was dumb.

Too many POVs. Bland or unlikable characters. A very basic plot with an idiotic premise. Like Naomi dealing with getting over Ely being gay? He came out in middle school! They're in college!! It would make some more sense if he just came out and now she had to completely reassess their friendship.. But its been like 5 years!! Was she brain-dead that entire time? Her "realization" was just so idiotic and I did not feel proud of her or relief, joy, or any other typical emotion that typically accompanies characters having their epiphany moment. "We will never have a family and kids. Because Ely likes guys. I like guys. I am not a guy." Were we supposed to cheer for her for finally having a "break-through?" ??? LIKE? NO SHIT LADY! Honestly was gonna give up on it, but it was so short I read the whole thing to give a fair judgement. Not impressed.
