The Yellow Wallpaper is a quintessential and spine-tinglingly creepy work of feminist Gothic horror. Through Charlotte Perkins Gilman's strikingly beautiful and haunting writing, she explores the psychological impacts of confinement as well as the psychological impacts caused by the dismissal and control of women at the hands of careless men. It may be short, but the crafting of the central character, and her gradual descent into psychosis is astonishingly well-written.
Graphic: Confinement and Mental illness
Moderate: Misogyny
Minor: Suicidal thoughts
