Allegiance by Cayla Kluver
5.0
I am so glad to have stumbled upon this author! I have a lot of respect and admiration for her because she's such a young writer, and yet has a lot of talent.
Allegiance is the sequel to Legacy, and it continues where the first left off, beginning with Steldor's coronation. Throughout the whole book, I was continuously engrossed; there was so much packed into this one book. It follows the complicated relationship between Steldor and Alera while documenting the continuing conflict between Cokyri and Hytanica.
I read some reviews from another reader about Legacy, and I was really disappointed by their review because they felt like they felt like the characters were lifeless and the writing was mediocre. Honestly, I commend Kluver for her vivid writing. I can see why people would say that some characters contained stereotypes, but I found them likeable, even more so in this sequel because all of them experienced growth and their depth increased. This is one of the most engaging books I've read for awhile, and I'm so glad that Kluver wrote them as a trilogy.
Whatever other people have to say, Legacy and Allegiance are extremely well written.
