Well, it’s a little pointless to write a review, as Horace Walpole is long gone. But I will say, I read this as part of a larger intention of mine to read all of the major works of gothic literature. I found this interesting as an example of proto-gothic, and the author’s extremely fast paced plot twists made things fun, but goodness the last three chapters dragged and fell short of the spooky, reflective, and evocative promise of what we consider gothic literature. It was really just a medieval romance story with only a few unrelated supernatural elements.
