Sane New World: Taming The Mind by Ruby Wax

4.0

I know, classic me, it’s a 4 star rating again! I just can’t commit to the full 5 ok? I’m sorry!

It was a rocky start, I found myself wondering where Wax was going with what appeared to be a fairly muddled concoction of personal experiences and psychology textbook style writing. As I read on it made more and more sense. Wax presents some truly eye-opening opinions on the mind, mental health and mindfulness in her book, with some genius self-care ideas that actually don’t seem super daunting to put into place and be able to call part of your routine!

Containing so many anecdotes from her own experiences, Wax has written a genuinely relatable account of her own experiences of poor mental health, negative thought patterns and how she approached to combat them, with some degree of success.

This book is a good reminder (I found) to those with mental health struggles that it’s not your fault, it’s just science! And there are ways to combat this cruel science with mindfulness and awareness activities.

Largely entertaining, relatable and enlightening.
