David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants by Malcolm Gladwell

2.0

I'm a fan of Gladwell's, and I found his latest book disappointing. The theme wasn't as strong as those in his other books, and his points were less well reasoned and substantiated. I got the sense reading it that there were other facets to the issue at hand that we're being ignored, like "what about this?" The argument also wasn't as groundbreaking as other books - most of us had parents tell us that some struggle or another builds character, which is a more pedestrian way of saying the same thing. Also, I felt like a piece of the argument, that struggle can also (and probably more often than the Brian Grazer examples) result in damage, defeat, etc. This was mentioned, but glazed over.

Overall, the book just felt insubstantial and maybe a bit lax on the persuasion.
