Danielle Daniel's writing is absolutely beautiful and gets you hooked right from page one.. This book is focused on inter racial relationships/mixed children between Alogonquin and early French settlers near Trois-Rivieres.
Marie is a healer and Pierre (her second husband) is a French Solider that her chief told her to marry to cement their alliance with the French. Jeanne - the first child born of the new marriage - finds herself caught between two worlds as it becomes clear she's two spirit and battles with how in her mothers culture she's seen as blessed but an abomination in her fathers.
