My Thoughts

Ok, so I really enjoyed this story, but it was a bit of a strange one in terms of the genre. It felt like a contemporary fiction until about 70%, and then the last 30% was a fast-paced, action-filled thriller! I know Thriller, Horror, Mystery all encompass a large umbrella of sub-genres, so I am positive it fits ib the Thriller bucket, but I am not positive which sub-genre it sits in.

As mentioned in the synopsis, a lot of the people in Sydney's neighborhood are going missing, but when reading the book I wasn't too concerned because when told from Sydney's perspective, she excuses a lot of things and puts them down to her paranoia, so I wasn't finding it as suspicious at first.

But we hit some massive twists and the last section of the book will literally fly past you!

There is another thriller that I was immediately reminded of, but there is no way I can say without revealing spoilers.

There is a lot of information and examples in this book regarding gentrification and racism that mirrors real life, particularly with 2020. It was extremely unsettling with how much it wasn't far-fetched! This was the part where it felt particularly thrilling/horrifying.

I will definitely read more books from Cole if she keeps writing this genre. I know she is a massively successful Romance writer, but I am just not a fan of romance. I really enjoyed her writing though.

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on When No One is Watching. Have you read this? Tell me what you thought!
