Holy crap! Okay yeah, I definitely understand the hype for this book now. I absolutely loved it and I’m kinda kicking myself for waiting so long to read it. That said, I think I read it at the perfect time. I feel like sometimes waiting until the hype over a particular book fades a little can definitely help to limit the “pressure” to like something just because it’s popular.

Now, let’s get into what I thought of the book. I’m kind of blown away by how much I liked it honestly. I have heard a ton of mixed reviews so I went into it expecting to think it was good, but not great. Or liking it, but not loving it.

Boy, was I way off! The FMC is such a badass right out of the gate and I immediately loved that. She wasn’t over the top, she wasn’t annoying and perfect but “so average but beautiful” like so many other FMC’s throughout the years. This was a character that had grit and depth before the plot even had gotten started. That, what some might call small, detail spoke volumes to me on where the story was headed.

Characters grow and change throughout stories, and the fact she was already such a likable and well rounded character could only mean one thing. She would become even better and more relatable and a heroine to root for as the story(and series) progressed.

I know there have been a ton of comparisons to ACOTAR and while I see that I definitely think that does this book a disservice. To me, while it might share a few similarities in some tropes since both are fantasy, I feel like this one holds its own without needing to be compared to anything else. It’s wholly unique and I cannot wait until the next book comes out. If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to read this book I highly  recommend taking the plunge!
