Queen of Song and Souls by C.L. Wilson

5.0

***SPOILER WARNING***
I tried to keep it fairly generic, but depending on what you consider a spoiler, maybe don't read this review if you haven't read the book. Especially don't if you haven't read the first three.

--------------------------------

This series has so much more going on than I expected it would, and I cannot wait to see where it goes. There are several side characters now that I am nearly as invested in as the main storyline.

I know they were brought up a lot in earlier books, but somehow I was still pleasantly surprised that we got to spend time with the elves. In many ways they reminded me of Tolkien's elves, which I think is what endeared them to me immediately. I mentally cast Galad as Lee Pace accidentally, and couldn't get that image out of my head--his cold exterior and 'for the greated good' mentality reminded me so much of Thranduil, and I loved him just as much.

We finally got a resolution to Adrial's storyline, and while it was not at all what I was expecting...it was still a beautiful story. Adrial has been in the back of my mind since he first met his truemate and it was very emotional to see that storyline come to its climax.

I am SO curious to know what is going on with Lillis....the fact that we are only seeing her POV and not Lorelle, the fact that their mother AND father are both there...I have so many guesses and I can't wait to see what happens.

And of course, Rain and Ellie's story just keeps getting better. At this point I honestly am starting to question if we will get a truly happy ending, because there is so much sorrow and despair building around them. Is the dark voice in Ellie's head truly the mage? Or is it her own? I want so badly for Ellie to have a reunion with her parents, as well. And considering how attached I have gotten to every Fey in her quintet...I am just really hoping for a happy ending here. The urge to check who survives book five is STRONG.

There is just a whole lot more 'fantasy' in this fantasy romance than I ever expected and I am so here for it.
