Myself and my book club really liked this one. The book spans over 30 years and numerous books. It makes me want to hit some of those classics, Heart of a Lonely Hunter, etc. that I just missed. It also brought back fond memories of some of my favorites, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, etc. But the most significant part is that of her characters. From the devoted and crafty, Kari to the liberal and stubborn Slip. This book ranges from all different types of women and brings them together to discuss life, family and love. They are fiercely protective of one another, enough to make you jealous of that type of friendship. We see marriages, divorce, illness, lies, births, death, breakups, snow ball fights, and lots and lots of drinking and eating. I love their adventure through the years as seen through books. You really get to see the whole picture of each character through the eyes of her dearest friends.
