Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
5.0

Flowers for Algernon is a tale of heartbreak. What happens when you take a man with a intellectual disability and make him a genius? Well he outpaces everyone he knows, he remembers things he has long forgotten, and he loses himself.

When Charlie Gordon has an operation to improve his IQ he expects it to work fast. He's tested against a mouse, Algernon, who has also had the surgery. When it doesn't work instantly he is discouraged, but as he is slowly able to understand and comprehend more his life changes. He gets fired from his job, he learns so many languages, he becomes a researcher just like those who made him the way he was. Then at that upper echelon of his intelligence he watches as Algernon regresses. Then Algernon dies, and Charlie must find out what is going to happen to him before he loses everything he must make something of himself for everyone to know.

It shows the range of all people from those with disabilities, those of "average" qualities, and those who are genius. As well as the variation that can happen between IQ and emotional intelligence.
