This YA series 🥹 I read They Both Die at the End several years ago but kept putting off reading the prequel that came out in 2022 because I knew it would rip my heart out again. I was right 💔 but I knew I had to read it before the next book in the series comes out May 6: The Survivor Wants to Die at the End!
The First to Die at the End begins at midnight in Times Square as Death Cast launches its first day. In this dystopic world, the new company Death Cast will call its subscribers between midnight and 2 am if the person is going to die that day—the knowledge that today is their last day will give them the chance to truly live their last day to its fullest. Like the original book, two teenage boys’ lives become inextricably intertwined by Death Cast and they find love even under the dire circumstances. Beyond the MCs, Adam Silvera weaves together the paths of side characters beautifully. Little heartbreaks intersperse with little moments of joy during someone’s End Day, building to an ending I couldn’t stop reading as I fought back tears.
