To my utter astonishment, Crave, Pt 1 is the very first book by EK Blair I’ve read (hides in shame). It was time to rectify that and I was drawn to the storyline, a YA love story, but I knew it would be edgy. She just has that reputation for emotional and consuming stories. In Crave, High schoolers Kason and Adaline battle his demons and Adaline’s self-doubt from the rejection she suffers from her broken family.

Pivoting between Kason’s view and Adaline’s, Blair quickly sets up each of their backstories, Kason’s social standing and addiction and Adaline’s status as a new student in a Florida beach community. The story is driven by interactions with school friends and family and the complexity of their emotions for each.

Kason is a very complex character and it was easy to find sympathy for his disorder and the shame that accompanies his compulsion. Adaline and Kason experience more than the usual drama of first love and the theatrics of high school life. The story is fast paced Blair leaves us off with a jaw dropping event that left a pit in my stomach. Adaline’s world is thrown into a spin and I’m anxious for Pt 2 and to see what comes next for Kason and her. 5 Stars and recommendation!!
