His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik

5.0

This was a great read! It was a good introduction to the world and set up for what has the sense of an EPIC series already. Everything was easy for me to follow without making me feel spoken down to. The world building is detailed in exactly the way I always long for (especially with dragon stories) and honestly, the best way I can describe it is “yummy.” Feed me more, please! Whenever I had a pressing question, it would be answered soon enough to never leave me frustrated. Excellent aerial battles, I always eat that up. The pacing felt well done to me. I was always engaged though it’s not the most action-packed all the time.

This series makes a great compliment to the Memoirs of Lady Trent. Just much more masculine, which I could do without but it is what it is. Covers are even a bit similar!

Temeraire is my favorite character, I’m excited to see his growth and development.

I enjoyed the audiobook too!
