Emily Henry is hands-down one of the best contemporary romance authors – oh my GOD I absolutely loved this novel! To be honest I wasn't this sure about it at first because I didn't feel connected enough to the story nor Poppy's character, but then, around halfway through the book I was completely hooked that I've read the whole thing literally in one sitting. I absolutely love the friends to lovers trope (underrated!!!!!) and in this case it was so adorable and realistic – which means pure perfection. I especially liked how the author gave us the chance to look into the history of Poppy and Alex's friendship in an unusual way; it was like the story had dual timelines which can be so awesome if it's written properly. And don't even get me started on Alexander ‘The Great’ Nilsen because I won't be able to shut up for like days!! His and Poppy's dynamic (and chemistry) is utterly breathtaking: they help each other grow and see parts of each other they never had the opportunity or the courage to see, and I've never felt this jealous of a fictional couple in a very long time.
This book is the proof of that you can go on silently loving someone for years, decades, while constantly being on the verge of just giving up on it. But something always pulls you back, back to them, back to loving and longing for them. And eventually, this patience (and hurting and craving) will pay off for you. Somehow it always will.
I've said this before but I'll say it again: Emily Henry's writing is so brilliant, thorough, personal and easy to read. People We Meet On Vacation obviously gets 5 out of 5 stars from me – I mean, that's the least my brand new tooth-rotting-fluff-euphoric-romcom book deserves.
