Zikora by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Firstly, Dear young person,

Whatever mistakes you make in your lifetime. When you decide to have children, tell them. You owe it to them. Don't use tough love to shield them from your mistakes. Help them feel what it was like experiencing your mistakes, guide them.

Growing up to a single parent, It's safe to safe I understand what Zikora felt. Her insecurity and doubts. Marriage and childbirth is the end of an African woman.

A woman is only regarded high in our community and society when she finally marries. Her whole worth is defined by the man she marries, not by her intelligence, her achievements, her personality, her values and principles. She is weighed on a scale of how many children, especially male children she can bear her husband.

African women are taught to value pain and suffering as mental strengthening. Zikora pours all these realities into words.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie shows you the African woman's experience through 39 years old single mother, Zikora.
