A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories by Flannery O'Connor

5.0

Holy moley!
I had never read O'Connor and each story is a work of art. The language, the themes, the family relationships - this is one of the best examples of fiction telling truths better than non-fiction. They are accessible stories, but not an easy read. Some of them feel like they might have been written last week - change a Polish immigrant just out of WWII camps to a new immigrant from Central America, and the story, "The Displaced Person" would be just as relevant.
There's a humor in these stories, although often very dark. The foreboding that she creates on the page is the kind that will haunt you in the days that follow.
