Ruining Hattie by P. Rayne

emotional slow-paced

4.5

Bastion had a horrible childhood, especially due to his birth mom’s habits. Now that he is an adult, he decides to find out what happened to his mom after he left. What he finds is completely unexpected; his mom got sober and went on to be a mom to a stepdaughter, Hattie. Bastion decides to go on a revenge path to take her “picture perfect” life down a peg or two by making her daughter fall in love with him, which he thinks will be easy. Hattie grew up in the church and sheltered. Due to a series of unfortunate events, she ends up having to stay with Bastion in the city and working at the club he owns. As the two grow closer, can he stay on the path he is on: what happens if Hattie finds out his motives? I only wish there had been a bit more groveling, after everything he had done.
