Mercy by Jodi Picoult

Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.
WOW. This is terrible. Less than 50 pages in, and so much inexplicable weirdness has happened. Police chief/Scottish chieftain's (?!) Wifey leaves flower shop to visit him, Random Lady goes into the flower shop to make flower arrangements in the hopes of getting hired, actually gets hired for some reason, Random Lady dazzles Hubby, a dude pulls up Mean Girls-style with his dead wife in the car, Random Lady goes home with Wifey, and to end the evening Hubby fucks Wifey thinking of Random Lady because she's just *that* sexy in a nightgown. Huh?! Nooooope. Nope nope nope. NOPE.

I really enjoyed My Sister's Keeper, but I can't finish this. This reads like a terrible soap opera with flat, boring characters and stupid problems. I was looking forward to the debates around "mercy killings" or euthanasia (I believe that's the more correct term), but it's not worth the pain of reading any further, for me at least. But to be fair, one of my favourite books is Flowers in the Attic, which is arguably just as soap-operay (especially the sequel book, iykyk), so honestly, I have no judgment for anyone who loved this. Just not for me. Shame too, because I own the copy I was reading. Hopefully, some Picoult fan will pick it up from my neighbour's Little Free Library. Alas.
