mothtongue 's review for:
Prince of Agony
by Tavia Lark
I confess, I've never really been a fan of the Sandry brothers.
This series holds a dear place in my heart, but my love has always gone in other directions. Throughout Julien and Whisper's story, I fell in love with Whisper. For Bellamy and Rakos, I was charmed by Rakos and thrilled by their adventure. For Audric and Corin, the mystery and the angst kept me excited.
Then, came Vana and Daro. They were my first taste of adoring both main characters, and I'd thought their book would be my favorite of the series. Marek and Sei were, well.. not my cup of tea, but someone else saved that book, when I thought it had nothing for me.
Kazia.
Throughout the series, my favorite character from Perilous Courts was Lucien. I thought he was hilarious, charming, and far more interesting than anyone else we'd met. I love these books and, even when I didn't give a damn about the characters, Tavia Lark's writing and fantastic world always kept me enthralled. But it was those brief moments of Lucien that had me eagerly reaching for the next book, hoping I'd get another glimpse.
But... then I met Kazia, and my adoration for this series grew tenfold. I knew there was something special to him, even when all we saw was him being an unhinged little shit. Reading the fifth book felt like mining for gold as I picked apart every scene, every page, looking for crumbs of this boy.
Imagine my surprise and pure delight when I discovered the final installment of this beloved series was not only going to be Kazia's book, but Lucien's as well. Admittedly, I was nervous at first. I sincerely didn't like the book before, and I worried that within my excitement, I would have gotten my hopes up far too much. But I did not. Prince of Agony is, without a doubt, my favorite book within the series. The story is fun and engaging. It's full of heart and hurt, love and anguish. Both Lucien and Kazia get their chance to shine and god do they take it.
I bid this series goodbye with a heavy heart, but oh-so grateful that we're going out on a perfect note.
