The Familiars
by Stacey Halls
DNF. The description of a woman as having a confident look in her eyes, “almost masculine”, coupled with the man “eager for an heir” (you mean, pressuring you into sex), were pretty big signifiers that this book wasn’t for me. If I’m feeling generous then I’d say that historical fiction just maybe isn’t for me. But ultimately I think this is a Mills&Boon novel that hasn’t yet seen the feminist light of day.
