It took a while for me to feel like this book was picking up, like, maybe 40% of the way through, but once it got moving I definitely started enjoying it more. I liked the concept of the world building and the different types of creatures, and appreciated how it definitely got into discussing the arbitrary hierarchy but I think that also came a little late. I am a sucker for a mean, off-putting, and knife-loving heroine though, so I did like Wren a lot!
