Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi

3.0

Book CWs: rape (in the past), racism, panic attack, miscarriage

This book is super slow paced in everything from the slow burn to the friendships made to the plot being essentially nonexistent. After reading this and Permanent Record, it's definitely what Choi likes to write though. Rather than telling some sort of detailed story, most of her focus seems to be on the mundanity of life, but writing it in a way that makes it captivating. Emergency Contact is very character driven, and focuses more on how people affect one another and the difficulties of letting people in. I was a little uncomfortable about the age gap between Penny and Sam though, just because she was obviously still very much a kid, even though she was "mature for her age."
