A bunch of missing cases, a ruined hotel and a dead girl in the creek. What starts out as a search for answers to a personal matter quickly becomes way more horrifying than freelance writer Erin could have dreamed of.
If this novel was a sensation it would be itchy. I think where it really shines is the atmosphere of old ruins of buildings, a tiny town, the interconnectednes of it all. I loved taking my time to really sit with the conversations between Erin and the group, especially Jordan and Madison. I like how the novel lets you sit with the feelings and conflicts of the characters. Especially one scene between Jordan an Erin made me tear up a little.
I also enjoyed the POV of the coyote and the presence of the Strangeness. Where "Girl in the Creek" lost me a little however was when it started to overexplain of what the Strangeness was. The horror of the first two thirds was so well done up to that point.
The last chapter kind of saved it for me though. Great last sentence imo.
