Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson
4.0

Artemisia is one of the sisters who live at the convent. In order to become a nun you have to have the gift of sight which shows spirits who remain on earth or who have possessed a humans body. Working with the dead never bothered Artemisia, it’s the living who give her so many problems. After her convent is attacked by spirit possessed soldiers, Artemisia travels to Bonsaint. Can she stop the Revenant and become the Vespertine to save the human race, or will the dead succeed in taking over the world?

Vespertine is one of the only YA Fantasy books I have read that had no romance and was able to keep me locked in. A couple of times I thought the author was hinting to future feelings but that didn’t end up to be the case. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read Dark Fantasies. I loved Artemisia and Marguerite’s growth and was fascinated by how magic was worked into the story.
