The Very Nice Box by Eve Gleichman, Laura Blackett
4.0

4.25 stars

My Synopsis. MC Ava is a product designer at an IKEA-type furniture company. Her workplace is a bit culty, despite this, she is devoted to her design work. Maybe a bit too devoted, ever since her girlfriend died in a car accident a few years ago. Things start to change when Ava develops a relationship with her new charismatic boss, Mat. This book is part romance, part suspense novel and I don’t think I should say much more about the plot than that!

My Thoughts. I really enjoyed The Very Nice Box, it’s written in a quirky style and is wryly funny. This book covered so many topics including sexism in the workplace, terrible workplace culture driven by capitalism and pseudopsychology, grief and loss and more. Overall, it was such a unique, compelling book! At times, I had no idea what was going on, but in a good way. The last 50 or so pages of this book resolve the story so well and I found the ending to be perfect!
