How to Excavate a Heart
by Jake Maia Arlow
lighthearted
medium-paced
I was trying to get some holiday reads in that celebrate different holidays and this book popped up for having Jewish traditions. I also liked that it was a sapphic read. I am in love with this cover! How to Excavate a Heart was pitched as YA but I think it’s more NA as our main character Shani is going for an internship. I liked that her internship was the usual one it was a not well known therefore it seemed more interesting for us as the reader. I enjoyed that her and May’s relationship started off by then not liking each other as Shani’s mom almost accidentally killed May with her car. I liked seeing the accidental meeting again and then watching. The girls friendship and then relationship grow. It did take me awhile to read it but I was a bit slumpy, but when I actually picked it up I was drawn into the story and our characters. It was a light a quick read that was really sweet and cute. I’d recommend it to other readers as well.
