Tales from the Perilous Realm by J.R.R. Tolkien
3.0

Nothing in here is great. Roverandom is cute but rapidly becomes a sprawling mess. Farmer Giles of Ham shows a light touch and is pleasantly easy reading. The Adventures of Tom Bombadil is probably of interest to Lord of the Rings completists, but doesn't do much beside fleshing out some of the mythology there. Smith of Wootton Major is another pleasing diversion. Leaf by Niggle may be the strongest story here, but by far the best bit is the Appendix - an essay On Fairy Stories.

Overall this has the feel of a money maker for the Tolkien estate. It certainly doesn't contain anything that would enhance the man's reputation.
