Interview with the Vampire
by Anne Rice
Jesus, what a slow drag of a story.
And why is it written to be supposedly an interview when Anne Rice so clearly wants to interject her own flowery narration? I myself am a long-winded, rambling sonuvabitch when it comes to recounting stories to others and the whole time I’m like, “OK, get to the point, dude, and who the hell talks like this, with all that description?” Its navel-gazing writing is beautiful, I guess, but the pacing is god awful.
The characters are despicable, and that’s probably the point, but it’s not fun to read.
I can see where Twilight gets its inspiration. This book makes me appreciate it more and actually think it gets way more flack than it deserves. Get over yourselves, Anne Rice fans, Louis has just as little agency and as much misplaced priorities as Bella, and he’s an adult-turned-immortal vampire.
