The Lost Love Song by Minnie Darke
3.0

Book preferences are always personal, just because something about a book does work for me doesn’t make it a bad book. And I just finished a rare 5 star book right before that one, so I think that’s worth nothing.

This book is largely written about a love song and that song ties all the characters together, it has an impact on their lives in someway. Definitely a cool idea.

Arie and Diana had a beautiful love and we’re deciding whether to take the next step and get married. Then something incredibly tragic happens.

Before the tragedy, Diana writes a love song about her and Arie. That love song takes an interesting path and changes as it goes. It leads a lot of people to new places and big decisions in their lives.

Here’s the thing, you’re either going to like the interludes or you might find them confusing.
I’d say the main characters are Arie and Evie.
But every few chapters we’d get an interlude, it would be a little side story about another character and the song. Sometimes the characters were connected to other characters and sometimes they weren’t.
I felt myself getting confused or distracted, trying to keep up with the minor characters and the major ones. I’d put in the time to figure out whether the minor characters were connected to someone else, I’d read their stories and then they might never be mentioned again in the story.
Maybe for me personally it would have worked better to have less interludes and more time devoted to the minor characters. Less of them but more commitment to their stories.

Again, it’s always going to be a personal opinion about a book. The interludes confused me sometimes and made the book flow less smoothly for me.
I think Evie’s portion of the book was possibly my favorite.
