Power Play by Maria Luis
3.0
This book was overall fine, but it definitely wasn't my favorite of Maria Luis'.
The pros:
It's hilarious. There are a few lines in here that actually had me laughing out loud rather than just a small giggle.
It's about hockey, but it's not a key factor in the book. There are moments throughout the book where she talks about the sport and the fact that the MMC is a hockey player, but she doesn't overdo it with bad puns or bringing the sport into the story where it isn't needed.
The cons:
What I've loved about Maria's other books is that the conflict between the two main characters is an outside issue rather than an issue of deception from one of the love interests. In this book, however, she has the FMC write a trashy tabloid about her famous love interest, and it's released by a third party despite having been thrown in the trash. It felt like a very safe way to push conflict into the book, and I missed the "power couple working together to fight the issue" vibe of her other books.
This didn't feel like an actual full fledged story to me. It felt more like a novella, which is fine! But going into it I expected more content than what I was given.
Unlike the the Put a Ring On It Series she wrote, this one isn't a given for me to keep reading. I may give the second book a chance, but at this point it's not a must read like the other set was.
