This is easily some of Meyer's worst writing. She makes her characters so irredeemably insufferable that it was so difficult not to DNF.

Jacob's character turned into someone Polar opposite of what we saw in New Moon and Twiloght. He's first presented to us as a good friend and childish, and yet in Eclipse he's shown as forceful
going as far as to write him assaulting Bella and convinced she liked it
In no way does Stephanie make this 180 of character make sense.

Then we have Edward who. To Meyer's credit stays the same possessive, manipulative and controlling self. Only its amplified to all hell,
He literally has his family hold Bella hostage against her will when she wants to see her other friends all because he doesn't trust them. As someone who has been in an emotionally abusive relationship this just royally pissed me off and made him entirely unredeamable.

Not to mention the writing is nowhere near what it has been in past books. One part that sticks out is forcing the phrase 'informed on me' instead of simply saying that Jacob 'told on me' or ratted me out or anything that would make sense for a teenager to say. Bellas dialogue has never been that formal before.

The book was also so repetitive, I found myself skimming through chapters most times and would never really lose any of the plot.

For me this book read like the characters started to build and the story was forming into something Steohanie Meyer's hadn't planned for it to go, but instead of following that path, she chose to strong-arm what she wanted to happen which ended up in a forced, boring, and painful read for me personally. The characters didn't follow what she set up for readers in the two books prior, her writing was weaker than before, and the plot felt like it dragged on.
