Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland
4.0
This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2024 and to start off with, I was a little disappointed. There are 6 POVs which, at the beginning, struggled to hold my attention as I felt it took longer to connect to the characters and progress the story. Though, after the 100 page mark I was completely hooked. Once I was into it, I didn't even need to read who’s POV the chapter was in, because I could tell from the unique personalities and writing style the author used for each character.
There was more information revealed in every chapter and each one made me want to read more. It was so hard to put this book down.
If you're are a fan of found family with morally grey main characters, this is for you! Each character has their own secrets and motives for wanting the crown, and it was a complete guessing game of who the traitor was going to be. Special mention to Royo and Sora, they were my favourites!
The betrayal and plot twist at the end of this book had me staring at the wall, I didn't expect it at all.
The sequel has been set up perfectly and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. I need it now!!
