Never Entice an Earl by Lily Dalton

3.0

How to describe my thoughts on this book? It’s fine. I guess. Maybe. If you’re looking for a very simple book that takes wrapping things up in a bow to the next level then pick it up. That’s the one sentence pitch I’ve got for you.

My main issue is this book felt like there were literally so many different plots and none of them really matter? Daphne’s main conflicts involve helping her maid out, being recognized at a club while doing scandalous things, a total creep wanting to wed her, not wanting to marry because she doesn’t deserve happiness, her family pushing her to marry, and falling for Cormack who she can’t have because he lied to her (or was it because he is betrothed to someone else). Cormack’s main conflicts are him trying to hunt for the man who impregnated his sister and abandoned her, falling for Daphne (but being betrothed so he can’t have her even tho it’s not a real betrothal but there is land tied up in it and that matters!!). All do these conflicts are treated equally even tho they probably shouldn’t be?

This is where my actual spoilers are going to be.

And OMG that ending... are you kidding me? Cormack rescues Daphne from creep dude but it takes two seconds and there really isn’t any tension built for the scene. Then Daphne (cuz she’s an idiot) calls him darling in front of her brother in law so they’re going to be forced to marry. Cormack is cool with it but warns brother that it’s going to take convincing to get Daphne to go along with it because she doesn’t think she deserves to be happy. But wait! He just sneaks her out of her room and solves that issue in one sentence and convinces her to marry him. Emotional beat solved but not in a satisfying way. Then they go to Cormacks estate so she can meet his parents. They meet his sisters bastard son but guess what? He ain’t a bastard. He’s Daphne’s brothers legitimate son because that dude married the girl in secret and only one guy knew about it and he happens to be best friends of the family and present during the whole thing.

Idk it just felt to clean? No emotional beats really....
