Chasing the Boogeyman: A Novel by Richard Chizmar

2.0

I am befuddled by the high ratings of this book. I found it incredibly boring. And I’m a huge fan of true crime, so the idea (fiction set up as true crime) really appealed to me. But this…just so tedious and uninteresting.

As for other reviews who have said the ending is “shocking” - I honestly don’t know what they’re referencing. It’s sad, it’s depressing, and it’s even an insight into “the evil inside all of us” (if you really want to stretch). But shocking? No. It’s all too believable and all too expected.

2 stars because he’s an excellent writer and great at his craft. So at least the writing itself is well-done.
