The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
5.0
I honestly thought I had this book figured out. As I was following the thread that I was confident I knew would end the way it seemed to be unraveling, I was made a fool of. The thread started to knot and as I was undoing the knot the thread changed entirely. The journey was so fast and thrilling and it slapped me in the face with something that I never could have thought of.
I was very wary of this book for starters. When I learned that the writer was at first a screenwriter my expectations were set low, mainly because of the experience I had with [b:The Anomaly|36342156|The Anomaly|Michael Rutger|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1508879817s/36342156.jpg|58022145] for it was something that sounded good and left me wanting more than it could ever deliver. So as I began to breeze through this read in the first few days, I found myself delighted by the narrative but of course, I was making my assumptions along the way. By the end of the seventh day, before I got to the last few chapters, I believed I had all the puzzle pieces in place. I was wrong, I put all of the pieces in the wrong place and when this author showed me the real plot, I was floored. I hurried to the last page and when I found myself on the last page, I closed the book and just sat there, absorbing the intricate needlework.
This book is a great psychological thriller/mystery. The characters are expertly crafted and delivered to the reader as if they are an open book and in fact, they only show you the table of contents. And I loved it. I was deceived into believing I knew where this was going but, by the fates was I wrong and I couldn't be happier about it.
