The Vegetarian by Han Kang

3.0

i finally read the vegetarian by han kang. this book is heavy and disturbing, following yeong-hye’s sudden decision to become a vegetarian, which leads to abusive reactions from her family. it dives deep into patriarchy, misogyny, and control.

the pov shifts to her brother-in-law and sister, in-hye, revealing even more layers of trauma, mental health struggles, and societal pressure. at times, i found myself thinking, “wtf is this?” but couldn’t put it down despite the discomfort.

this book is a provocative read on culture, mental health, and autonomy. disturbing yet powerful, it left me curious after each chapter. 3.5/5, and i’m definitely interested in reading more from han kang!
