Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun by Jonny Garza Villa

4.0

I stumbled across this one in my Kindle Unlimited trial and I really liked it! It's a bit quiet and low-drama (apart from the dad), but the relationship between Julian and Mat is super sweet and somewhat idealistic. The real world obstacles aren't avoided, just resolved fairly easily. It's the kind of warm and fuzzy that I needed. Plus, I loved all of the characters, especially Julian's supportive straight male friends.

My only ding is that the writing style takes a while to get used to. There are a lot of sentence fragments that could/should just be clauses in the previous sentence, so it can read choppy in places. And it slips into passive voice occasionally for no added value. But after a while I grew accustomed to the voice so it stopped bothering me.
