Face Off by Teagan Hunter
2.0

2.5

first and foremost i have to say teagan hunter is one of my favorite authors and i have a genuine fun time with all her reads, so it genuinely pains me to say this, but i did not enjoy this one. in fact, for the first time ever i considered dnfing a book by teagan and it took me days to finish it, instead of the usual one-sitting i do with her books.

‘hate to love’ already is one of the tropes i tend to not like the most and ‘face off’ managed to use all the factors as to why that is. rory met lawson briefly and immediately grew an IMMENSE dislike for him because he’s a “player”? ok? mind you, she didn’t hear stories of friends of hers or even happened to her, she just immediately picked up on his attitude and treated him as if he had cheated on her or something.

and what happened? her actual ‘dislike’ was resolved pretty quickly (even though she still kept telling her ‘no, you don’t care’ and blah blah blah) since the reason was just plain stupid, and that’s what caused another thing i didn’t particularly enjoy: fast burn!

did they actually get together fast? no, but in very few pages she went from “i can’t stand to be around him” to “oh my god why am i feeling this for him?” and that just cemented my annoyance regarding her whole dislike towards him in the first place. also, one their big quotes happened so out the blue to me i felt whiplashed. you’ve guys barely had a good interaction and he’s already speaking poetry about her smile?

that is pretty ironic actually, since i’m pretty sure this is the longest book teagan’s published but the emotional part of their relationship was pretty fast.

all in all, i couldn’t bring myself to care for them as a couple. unlike all the other books by teagan, their story didn’t captivate me and i stopped so many times because i was bored. i didn’t feel their connection and i do feel like they could’ve benefited from a slower development.

however, lawson and serpents guys i love you! i could EASILY read a whole book of lawson talking to daisy, and the guys of the team being stupid with each other.

in the topic of daisy, the time i felt the most while reading this book, was that whole little thing by the end regarding daisy. i cared more in those few pages than the rest of the story.

AND I’M CRAZY EXCITED ABOUT HAYES BOOK!
