A really interesting take on a modern day social media mystery. Our heroine meets the perfect guy on Tinder, they eventually meet up and the perfect relationship develops. She's elated when he invites her to move in with him, so she sells her stuff, transfers her job, and pays a bundle to movers to ship herself over to his city... only to find him vanished. No guy, no furniture, nothing, only an empty apartment with a disturbing smiley face drawn on a door.
It's a great premise and it makes for a very creepy tale as she has no choice but to move into "his" apartment and eventually begins to track down increasingly disturbing hints of evidence about who he really was. Meanwhile she battles her own social media addiction, trying to learn what's happened without losing herself completely again in a sea of tweets and idealized lifestyle posts.
There's some goofy stuff too, with events where you'll be rolling your eyes as she does every horror movie cliche... "Hey, let's go to the cabin in the woods at night and look for clues, no need to call the police, and we can search while walking backwards holding candles" But overall, it's a solid read if you like the idea of a social media ghost story.
