Cilka's Journey
by Heather Morris
Wow, after reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz and learning of Lale, I didn't expect to be even more moved by Cilka's story, but I was. To suffer all she suffered in Auschwitz and then to have to face the gulags for so many years and the harsh treatments and horrors of being a woman in that situation, my heart just breaks for her. I think many people thought that the war ended after Hilter was defeated, but for many like Cilka, the nightmare was only half over. I can definitely understand why Cilka was the bravest person Lale ever met.
