Re-read this first batch of Angel & Faith Season 9 books for the first time since initially purchasing them (and since re-reading all of the Buffy Season 8 comics). While it's a marked improvement from Buffy Season 8 and the Angel and Faith pairing is great, it's definitely suffering a lot from having to pick up the pieces from the very painful way that season 8 ended. Angel's brooding as at levels heretofore unseen (which is really saying something) and he's just kind of being a dolt and not much fine. Faith's better, but given that she's also saddling with trying keep Broody McBrooderson in line, while also being a mentor to some forlorn slayers, she's got a lot on her plate. There's the germ of fun stuff in these books, but it takes a bit to get going. The final issue, which reunites Angel and Harmony (and is a one-shot separate from the four-part intro) is a lot more fun and less encumbered with picking up the shards of plot that had been thrown asunder in the prior attempt at continuing the TV series in comics form.

I look forward to continuing through these books as I have fond memories of the Angel & Faith series, but this was a bit bumpier than I had remembered it starting off.
