Good for a Girl: A Woman Running in a Man's World by Lauren Fleshman

5.0

This was an excellent book, highlighting the conflicting and often unhealthy balance of athleticism and female body image that pervades not just running, but most women's sports (i.e., one must be fast AND attractive). We assume there are overarching governing bodies that define standards and monitor programs, but the fact of the matter is it's not nearly to the extent necessary. Fleshman is a talented story teller, which makes her incredible story that much more powerful. I highly recommend you read this book if you are a female athlete or are entrusted by a young woman in navigating the course in an sport.
